Product & Fit
Why not just use a cone or e-collar? +
Cones are the easy quick fix, but they limit movement, increase anxiety, and stop your dog seeing and hearing properly, while leaving the wound exposed to dirt. A recovery suit covers the incision directly, so licking and contamination are physically blocked while your dog eats, sleeps, and moves normally. We compared every option in 12 Best Dog Cone Alternatives.
What's the difference between the suit and the front leg sleeves? +
The Recovery Suit covers the torso: spay, neuter, abdominal and chest surgeries, and body wounds. The Front Leg Recovery Sleeves protect front leg wounds, hot spots, and lick sores, and add padding for elbows on hard floors. Leg wounds are notoriously awkward to protect, which is why we wrote Dog Hot Spot on the Leg.
What size should I get? +
Every product page includes a sizing chart and a measurement guide, from XS up to XXL. Measure while your dog is standing, and if they sit between two sizes, size up for comfort over an incision. Still unsure? Email info@pupcovery.com with your dog's measurements and breed, and we'll pick with you.
How long should my dog wear it? +
For most procedures, throughout the healing period your vet gives you, typically 10 to 14 days for spay or neuter, longer for orthopaedic surgery. The suit is designed for round-the-clock wear. The full breakdown by procedure is in How Long to Keep a Recovery Suit on a Dog.
Daily Use & Washing
Can my dog eat, sleep, and play in it? +
Yes, that's the point. The four-way stretch activewear fabric moves with every step and zoomie, so your dog eats normally, sleeps in any position, and stays part of family life while the wound stays covered.
How do potty breaks work? +
The easy-zip design and adjustable belly closure fold away for toilet breaks in seconds. No wrestling the whole suit off four times a day.
Is it machine washable? +
Yes. Machine wash cold at 30°C on a gentle cycle and line dry; hand washing extends the life of the fabric. During recovery we recommend washing every 2 to 3 days to keep the wound environment clean. Step-by-step: How to Wash a Dog Recovery Suit.
What if the suit irritates my dog's skin? +
True irritation is rare with a correct fit; most cases come down to sizing, trapped moisture, or washing residue. Our guide Recovery Suit Skin Irritation in Dogs: The Fix walks through the causes and fixes, and if it doesn't resolve, contact us and we'll sort the size or the refund.
Recovery Help
My dog licked the incision. What now? +
Don't panic, and don't scrub it. Check the incision for redness, swelling, or discharge, cover it, and call your vet if anything looks off. What to do (and not do) is covered in Dog Licked Incision: Clean It or Leave It Alone?
What does normal healing look like? +
Mild redness and slight swelling early on are normal; spreading redness, discharge, odour, or reopened edges are not. See Dog Stitches Healing Stages for what each week should look like.
What should the first week at home look like? +
Rest, restricted movement, wound checks twice a day, and a lot of patience around day four when the energy returns before the healing does. We wrote a complete first-week checklist, plus a week-by-week TPLO guide for orthopaedic recoveries.
How do I stop the licking without a cone? +
Physical coverage beats correction: a suit or sleeve makes the wound unreachable, so there's nothing to police. Techniques, distractions, and what actually works are in How to Keep Your Dog From Licking Stitches Without a Cone.
